It’s been eight years since my last blog post. Nowadays, people are getting so hooked to social media like Tiktok, Weibo, X etc. we find ourselves so hard to sit down, take a walk, get a nap with a peaceful mind thinking nothing. So I decided to force myself sit down and write something again in this blog, to share some thoughts over last year.
Last year was my 14th career year in financial business. Now I’m a father and a husband, most of my after-work hours is spending with my family. Some says, mid-age man is boring. yout don’t have any hobby except driking alcohol, talking about politics and bragging. That’s basically true because we don’t have much time on our own. Even though, I developed a few new hobbies in recent years.
I started listening to some podcasts, mostly involving finance, history, politics and technology. Especially during the bed time, I’m accustomed to wearing my Airpods to listen to podcast. Trust me, it’s so damn good for getting a better sleep, way more efficacious than a piece of melatonin.
When I’m on driving, I always have my Spotify app connected through bluetooth. It’s a moderate and pure music player app without any distracting features.
Years ago, I’m a heavy movie enthusiast. But now, most of my spare time is spending with my little kid, I merely go to a theatre. Instead, I read a lot of books about history, biography and social sciences. Ironically, when I was in my high school preparing the college entry exam, the last subject I liked to study is history. Now, I spend a lot of reading on history. It gives me a broader view on China and the world. When i’m on a business trip, I always take my e-ink reader during the train or airplane time. I highly recommend the Wechat Read app, that’s the best app developed by Tencent. I can highlight and share my thoughts over the punchlines I read in a book, I can read other reviewers’ opinions. It really helps me getting an extensive read and thought.
Oh, recently I took a dive into the Next.js tech things after a few years of lost in Web Tech. It’s very interesting and bewildered to me. I am so out-dated to these neat things. For instance, the Tailwind CSS framework looks so disturbed to me, the in-line CSS classnames are clumsy and inelegant.
Most of us just had a very tough year, we’re unavoidably being though an ‘new era’ with economic depression and politic oppression. Nonetheless, I wish you all have a prospective new year. Feel free to comment to let me know you’re still alive after Covid-19 :D
